UF Broward Dining Facility Earns LEED Gold Certification
The University of Florida's Broward Dining facility achieved LEEDv4 Retail Gold certification following a 15-month renovation of the 28,000-square-foot space. The project marks the second UF building to earn the distinction, after the Racquet Club.
The redesigned Eatery at Broward serves the Honors Village community with expanded seating and an updated floor plan. The facility exceeds energy code requirements by 27%, reduces water use by 26%, and diverts 89% of construction waste from landfills, keeping 2.2 million pounds out of landfills.
UF partnered with Chartwells Higher Education on design and operations. The project incorporated ENERGY STAR kitchen equipment, improved indoor air quality through heat-reducing systems, and expanded locally sourced food options.
"Students who dine in this space have overwhelmingly embraced the building," said Matt Mueller, UF's director of food and beverage services.
