Two Charged in Harrison County After Boy Allegedly Locked in Cage

A man and a woman face child neglect charges after an 11-year-old boy reported being confined in a cage for hours and physically disciplined.

Michael Gibson, 44, and Angela Gibson, 48, are charged with child neglect creating a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury. Michael Gibson also faces a child abuse charge resulting in injury, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The boy told authorities Michael Gibson confined him in a "homemade bed that has four walls and a solid roof." He also alleged Michael Gibson struck him with a paddle, causing pain that lasted for days. Deputies reviewed photos from Child Protective Services showing severe bruising in various stages of healing on the child.

During a search of Michael Gibson's home, deputies found a locking cage in the victim's bedroom. Court documents state the 11-year-old reported being left in the cage for hours at a time and would be disciplined for soiling himself while confined.

The relationship between the suspects and the child is not specified. Both Michael Gibson and Angela Gibson are held at the North Central Regional Jail. No bond has been set.
