TEHRAN, Iran — Iran has scheduled a dayslong funeral for its late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The ceremonies are set to begin Saturday.

Preparations involve public viewing and processions across multiple days. The Imam Khomeini Mosalla Grand Mosque in Tehran hosted a viewing Friday, displaying the caskets of Khamenei and his granddaughter, Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani, along with other family members.

Authorities anticipate significant public attendance in the capital. They estimate millions of people will participate, comparing potential crowds to those observed during the 1989 burial of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.
