MMI Sophomores Win 2nd Place at Luzerne County Envirothon
Five MMI Preparatory School sophomores placed second at the 2026 Luzerne County Regional Envirothon on April 21 at Camp Kresge, scoring 352 points across five environmental science exams.
Marissa Yamulla, Siya Patel, Shreeya Parikh, Gabby Carsia, and Ariana Larsen posted the competition's highest scores in Aquatics (91 points) and Wildlife (82 points). The team competed against 35 total teams across five categories: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife, and Non-Point Source Pollution.
Six MMI teams competed in the regional event. Teams from the school finished in second, seventh, tenth, eleventh, fifteenth, and twenty-third place. The seventh-place team included Madalynn Young, Xavier Reymunde Wittmer, Zach Naugle, Isabella Destefano, and Jared Santana. Seniors Arushi Solgama, Alexis Bleiler, Rishi Patel, Jozef Dovicak, and Cassidy McDermott finished tenth.
Faculty advisor Michael Mele and chaperone Dr. Heather Grimm guided students from grades 10 through 12. "Watching students collaborate, problem-solve, and grow their confidence in the field is rewarding," Mele said.
