Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Inland Franklin: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Inland Franklin County until 4:15 PM EDT today, bringing hazardous winds, potential for major flooding, and several tornadoes; residents must act now to secure property and prepare for evacuations.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Inland Franklin County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 8:01 AM EDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning is in effect until 4:15 PM EDT today.
Residents in Inland Franklin County must act now to complete preparations. Hazardous winds of tropical storm force are expected, with potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Expect limited wind damage, including to porches, carports, and sheds, with many large tree limbs breaking and scattered power outages possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for the area, with potential for major flooding rain from an additional 3-6 inches of rainfall. Emergency plans should include the potential for widespread flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and many roads may become impassable.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Significant impacts from tornadoes could include considerable damage and widespread power loss.
There is little to no threat of storm surge flooding. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee, floridadisaster.org, or franklinemergencymanagement.com.
