A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Franklin County, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, FL issued the warning today, October 8, at 5:22 PM EDT, impacting Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point. Residents in these areas must act now to complete preparations, as hazardous conditions are expected to develop quickly.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed before conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are forecast, potentially causing limited damage to property, trees, and leading to scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway. A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings; evacuations and rescues are likely. There is also a significant potential for several tornadoes, with some possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. The warning is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 1:30 AM UTC.
