Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Franklin and Gulf Counties
A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Coastal Franklin and Gulf Counties, effective October 2-4, 2026, warning of dangerous rip currents and providing critical safety instructions for beachgoers.
Beachgoers in Coastal Franklin and Gulf Counties should exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee. This statement is in effect from 3:14 AM EDT on October 2, 2026, until 4:00 AM EDT on October 4, 2026.
Dangerous rip currents are expected along Franklin County Beaches, the South Facing Beaches of Gulf County, and the State Park Beaches of Gulf County. Rip currents pose a significant threat as they can pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
The NWS advises individuals to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, it is crucial to remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If escape is not possible, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
