A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Franklin, effective immediately until 4:30 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026. This warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, impacts Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point. Residents in these areas must act now to complete preparations.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in safe shelters. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding from heavy rain, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
Peak winds are forecast at 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway, preparing for limited wind damage. Act now to complete preparations before winds become hazardous. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings; if issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
