Tropical Storm Warning for Coastal Franklin: Act Now

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Franklin, urging immediate action for hazardous winds, life-threatening storm surge, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.

10/09/2026 · Franklin County edition

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Franklin, including Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point, as of 5:17 AM EDT on October 9, 2026, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning is in effect until 1:30 PM EDT today.

Residents need to act immediately to complete preparations. Hazardous winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected soon. Plan for potential limited damage to property, including porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break and scattered power outages.

A life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. If you are in an evacuation zone, remain sheltered in a safe location. Do not venture outside. A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, potentially causing major flooding, evacuations, and rescues.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or Franklin County Emergency Management at franklinemergencymanagement.com.
