Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Inland Franklin; Major Flooding Expected
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Inland Franklin County by NWS Tallahassee FL, warning of potential tropical storm-force winds, major flooding rain, and a few tornadoes, urging residents to complete preparations now.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Inland Franklin County, effective immediately as of October 7 at 4:52 PM EDT by the NWS Tallahassee FL. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. Residents should complete all preparations now.
Key impacts include the potential for wind speeds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak forecasts of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. This could lead to limited damage to structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Driving conditions may become hazardous on bridges and elevated roadways.
Of significant concern is the potential for major flooding rain, with an additional 4-8 inches and locally higher amounts forecasted. This threat has increased, and emergency plans should include the potential for extensive rainfall flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter many structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The threat of a few tornadoes has also increased. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safer location. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. There is no storm surge inundation forecast, but rough surf, coastal erosion, and life-threatening rip currents are possible.
This Tropical Storm Watch is effective until October 8, 2026, at 1:00 AM UTC. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee, Florida Division of Emergency Management, and Franklin County Emergency Management.
