Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Harris County: Act Now for Safety

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Harris County, including Hamilton, with immediate action required for wind, flooding rain, and potential tornado threats.

Staff Writer
10/09/2026 · Fortson edition

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Harris County, including the Hamilton area, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, GA, issued the warning at 11:19 PM EDT on October 9, 2026, and it remains in effect until 7:30 AM UTC on October 10, 2026.

Residents should complete all preparations before hazardous winds arrive. Forecasts predict peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages are possible. Secure loose outdoor objects.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect an additional 2-3 inches of rain, with localized higher amounts. Moderate flooding is possible, leading to potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and roads may become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The situation is also favorable for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safer spot before hazardous weather begins.
