Heat Advisory Issued for Region: Stay Hydrated, Seek Cool Air

A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield, Missouri, effective immediately until 8:00 PM CDT on Saturday, September 19. Residents in numerous counties, including Bourbon, Crawford, Cherokee, Benton, Morgan, Miller, Maries, Vernon, St. Clair, Hickory, Camden, Pulaski, Phelps, Barton, Cedar, Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Texas, Dent, Jasper, Dade, Greene, Webster, Wright, Newton, Lawrence, Christian, Douglas, Howell, Shannon, McDonald, Barry, Stone, Taney, Ozark, and Oregon, are urged to take precautions.

The advisory predicts daily heat index values of approximately 100 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, compounded by warm overnight lows in the 70s. These conditions present a risk of heat-related illnesses.

The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, and avoiding direct sunlight. Community members should check on relatives and neighbors. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Be vigilant for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and take immediate action if observed.
