Keith Sykes, 71, of Burlington, NC passed away at Liberty Commons on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Byron Homer Sykes and Pauline Frances Nash Sykes, both deceased. He was employed at Keith’s C D’s and Tapes and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.Survivors include his cousins, Christina Westbrooks, Kenneth Westbrooks (Sherrie), Brett Nash, Betty Stevens, Deborah Westbrook, Janet Wrenn, David Westbrook (Vicky), Gary Westbrook (Rose), Diane Westbrooks and friend, Cameron Moffitt.The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. by Rev. Powell Sykes. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.The family would love for anyone to join them after the burial at Keiths CDs to gather in memory of Keith.

Obetz Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting Scheduled for May 13

"The Obetz Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on May 13, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Obetz Government Center located at 4175 Alum Creek Drive to review a request for a Conditional Use Permit at 4685 Groveport Road for a wall. The Applicant, Shasta Beverages, is adding a CO2 tank necessitating the need for a new 60’ section of wall to screen the tank. The existing wall will be removed. A copy of the above request can be reviewed at the Obetz Government Center during normal business hours. "Obetz City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Obetz Government Center located at 4175 Alum Creek Drive to consider the following rezoning request submitted by Grand Communities, LLC (Fischer Homes): (1) the rezoning of all of or a portion of tax parcels 152-002313, 152-002314, 152-001744, 152-001841, 152-001847, 152-001848, 152-002315, 152-002316 from Planned Unit Development to Planned Residential District; and, (2) the rezoning of all of or a portion of tax parcels 152-001749 and 152-001753 from Exceptional Use to Planned Residential District. The portion(s) of the parcel(s) not included in the proposed Preliminary Development Plan will not be rezoned; rather, the underlying zoning will remain. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the rezoning request at its April 8th meeting.
