Tropical Storm Warning for Phenix City: Flooding, Wind Gusts, Tornado Threat

Phenix City is under a Tropical Storm Warning with threats of moderate flooding, wind gusts up to 45 mph, and a potential for a few tornadoes, according to the NWS.

PHENIX CITY, AL – Residents in Phenix City are under a Tropical Storm Warning, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning is set to expire on October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain, and localized higher amounts, expected. This presents a potential for moderate flooding rain, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter structures. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should prepare and heed all flood watches and warnings.

Wind speeds are forecast at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusty conditions are possible. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected, but community officials are currently assessing any realized impacts.

The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. Residents should remain informed and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. Tornadoes could cause localized damage, power outages, and communication disruptions.
