Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Forrest County Until 9 PM Tonight
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Forrest County until 9 PM CDT tonight, October 9th, with possible tropical storm-force winds, localized flooding, and no expected tornado threat.
FORREST COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Forrest County by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, effective immediately and expiring at 9:00 PM CDT tonight, October 9th.
Residents should prepare for possible tropical storm-force winds within the next 36 hours. The latest local forecast indicates peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are possible. While the sustained wind is expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusty conditions may occur. The NWS advises listening for instructions from local officials and ensuring emergency readiness in case the forecast changes. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected, and community officials are currently assessing existing impacts.
Localized flooding from heavy rain is a potential threat. While no additional significant rainfall is forecast, emergency plans should include the possibility of localized flooding. Those in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings. Potential impacts include localized flooding that may prompt a few evacuations, rising rivers and tributaries, swollen small streams, and water entering structures in vulnerable spots. Road and bridge closures due to rapid ponding of water are also possible.
The NWS reports that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. No specific safety instructions for tornadoes are needed at this time, but residents should remain informed of the latest forecast.
