Heat Advisory Issued: Heat Index Up To 107°F Through Saturday Evening
A Heat Advisory has been issued by NWS Memphis, TN, for East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee, with heat index values up to 107°F expected until Saturday, September 19 at 8:00 PM CDT.
Residents across East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee are advised to take precautions as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Memphis, TN. The advisory is effective immediately, September 16 at 10:59 AM CDT, and will remain in effect until 8:00 PM CDT on Saturday, September 19.
Heat index values are expected to reach up to 107 degrees Fahrenheit, creating conditions where heat illnesses are possible. The affected areas include the following counties: Clay, Greene, Craighead, Poinsett, Mississippi, Cross, Crittenden, St. Francis, Lee, Phillips, and Dunklin in Arkansas; Pemiscot in Missouri; DeSoto, Marshall, Benton, Tippah, Alcorn, Tishomingo, Tunica, Tate, Prentiss, Coahoma, Quitman, Panola, Lafayette, Union, Pontotoc, Lee, Itawamba, Tallahatchie, Yalobusha, Calhoun, Chickasaw, and Monroe in Mississippi; and Lake, Obion, Weakley, Henry, Dyer, Gibson, Carroll, Benton, Lauderdale, Tipton, Haywood, Crockett, Madison, Chester, Henderson, Decatur, Shelby, Fayette, Hardeman, McNairy, and Hardin in Tennessee.
The NWS recommends that individuals drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors during this period of extreme heat.
