Midwest Endures Heat Wave, Activities Canceled

DES MOINES, Iowa — A heat wave gripped the Midwest on Monday, leading to the cancellation or postponement of summer camp sessions and other outdoor activities. Communities responded by opening cooling centers and advising residents to remain hydrated and undertake minimal physical exertion.

Andrew Ansorge, a meteorologist in Des Moines, Iowa, identified the weather pattern as "a really hot and humid pattern." He added that meteorologists expect these conditions to continue through most of the current week. The elevated temperatures are anticipated to spread toward the East Coast.
