First Graders Present Sea Animal Research Jacksonville

First graders at a Jacksonville school presented marine research to families and peers yesterday at the Lori Schiavone Commons, sharing facts about octopuses, dolphins, and jellyfish they discovered during a multi-week project.

Each student chose a sea animal and researched its habitat, life cycle, food chain, and distinctive traits. They organized findings using bubble thinking maps, then wrote scripts and created detailed illustrations for their presentations.

The project spanned multiple campus locations. Students filmed videos in the innovation lab that played during the event. In art class, they created seahorse pieces and clay jellyfish. The library served as their research hub.

Beyond the presentations, students wrote creative "house rules" from their animals' perspectives, composed haikus, and crafted diamante poems inspired by marine life.
