Drone Attack in Russia's Tatarstan Region Kills 13

A drone attack on an industrial facility and an oil refinery in Russia's Tatarstan region killed 13 people, Russian authorities reported. The incident occurred approximately 700 miles east of the Ukrainian border.

Russian news agencies, citing local emergency services, stated that the attack struck student dormitories at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone. Officials also reported a drone hit the Taneco oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, causing a fire that was extinguished within 20 minutes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office did not immediately comment on the reported attacks. However, Ukrainian drones have previously targeted Russian oil refineries and infrastructure in recent months.

The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, stated that the attacks caused "no serious damage" to the targeted facilities. He added that the technological process at the plants remained uninterrupted. He urged businesses to implement their own security measures, noting that Russia's air defense systems cannot cover all potential targets.

Local authorities indicated that all those injured in the attack were students. They confirmed that none of the victims were in critical condition. Several news outlets reported that the casualties included foreign students from various African nations and post-Soviet countries.
