Bay County Government Center in Panama City Installs New Emergency Generator to Ensure Service Continuity

The Bay County Government Center in Panama City has completed the installation of a new emergency generator, ensuring the facility can maintain operations during future power outages. This project, funded through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), aims to protect critical government services from disruptions caused by severe weather and other hazards.

The new generator provides backup power to the Government Center building, located at 30.169643, -85.673188 in Panama City. This upgrade means that essential county functions will continue uninterrupted, even when the main power grid fails. Residents can expect continued access to services from the Government Center during emergencies.

Funding for the project came from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) DR-4399-023-R, with approvals from both the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The total budget for this initiative was $705,800.00. The project is now 100% complete and officially closed out, as indicated by procurement link 22-27.

The installation included a 1,750 kW permanent generator, or an adequately sized unit determined during the bid process, designed to support the critical infrastructure of the building. Engineers protected the generator against a 500-year flood event and enclosed it with a rated wind-resistant structure, enhancing its resilience against Florida's challenging weather conditions.
