Inverness City Manager Eric Williams has now served the city for over a decade, with nearly seven years in the top leadership role. Williams, who began as Assistant City Manager in April 2013, was promoted to City Manager on January 7, 2020. His tenure has seen significant focus on development, infrastructure modernization, and community engagement within Inverness.
Williams brought a strong background in land management and planning to his role. He holds a B.S. in Forestry and Land Management and Economics and a master’s degree in Biometrics & GIS from Mississippi State University. Before joining Inverness, he worked in private land management in Jackson, MS, for five years across Mississippi and Alabama. He then served the Florida Division of Forestry as a Senior Forester, managing a Geographic Information System (GIS) and focusing on land management and wildland fire/disaster response.
His career in Citrus County began when he was hired to help build a new Enterprise GIS system for the county. He later became the Director of Geographic Resources in Community Planning, where he directed and maintained the county's long-range planning and GIS programs. This experience proved valuable in his work for the City of Inverness, where he has championed the expansion of the Inverness Community Redevelopment Area and streamlined the city’s development review process.
Under Williams' leadership, the city has also prioritized the management and modernization of its utilities, setting a foundation for future growth. These efforts contributed to the re-kindling of developments such as Wyld Palms, which had been idle for several years. Beyond infrastructure, Williams has actively supported youth development programs and brought art and cultural events to the community, ensuring the full utilization of the Valerie Theatre. The Mayor and Council recognized his achievements on January 21, 2025, proclaiming him 'City Manager of Distinction'.
