The City of La Vernia is moving forward with plans to issue certificates of obligation totaling up to $4.6 million. The funds are earmarked for significant improvements to the city's infrastructure and public safety capabilities, aiming to keep pace with growth reminiscent of the early days in Wilson County.
The certificates will finance the construction, improvement, and equipping of streets and city parks, perhaps even enhancing areas near the famed Floresville Peanut Festival grounds. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be used to purchase new public safety equipment. These certificates are expected to be repaid through ad valorem taxes and a limited pledge of net revenues from the city's waterworks and sewer system.
A public hearing regarding the proposed issuance of these certificates was scheduled for August 13, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. The hearing took place at La Vernia City Hall, located at 115 N. Chihuahua in La Vernia.
The notice of intention to issue these certificates was published on August 1, 2024. This move by the City of La Vernia signals a commitment to enhancing essential city services and facilities for its residents, ensuring the town remains a vibrant place to live and work, much like it has been for generations.
