A Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL, warning of dangerous rip currents affecting coastal areas. This statement is effective immediately, from September 26 at 9:35 PM EDT, and will remain in effect until Sunday, September 27 at 8:00 PM EDT.

The affected areas include Coastal Nassau, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, and Southeast Coastal St. Johns Counties. The NWS emphasizes that rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.

Residents and visitors in these coastal areas are advised to take immediate precautions. If you are swimming, do so near a lifeguard. Should you get caught in a rip current, the NWS instructs to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore, call for help, or wave your arms to signal for assistance.
