Licensed Attorney As a licensed attorney, you can continue your civilian legal career while serving your country as a part-time Air Force Reserve Citizen Airman. Whether you are a prosecutor, public defender, legal aid attorney, or in private practice, you can bring your expertise to the Air Force Reserve Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. To qualify, you must: Be a U.S. citizen Be of good moral character Be admitted to practice law in the highest court of any state, commonwealth, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia Possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an American Bar Association-approved law school Successfully complete a military background check Be able to meet worldwide deployability requirements Commission as an officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve What to Expect Direct appointments for licensed attorneys are typically to the grade of Captain (O-3). As an Air Force Reserve JAG, you will serve one weekend a month and two weeks a year at a Reserve unit located near your home.
