Possession of a valid Driver License. PREFERENCE will be given to candidates who possess the following: Experience in forest management activities. Experience in the operation and maintenance of small engines, tractors, and heavy equipment. Experience in wildfire suppression techniques. Knowledge of basic surveying and mapping techniques. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a highly responsible technical position assisting professional staff in a variety of forest management activities. The incumbent must have the ability to perform duties independently with minimal supervision. Assists with the implementation of forest management plans, including site preparation, planting, timber stand improvement, prescribed burning, and timber harvesting. Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, and other forestry tools. Assists with wildfire suppression activities, including fire line construction, mop-up, and patrol. Collects and analyzes forest inventory data. Maintains accurate records of all activities. Assists with the maintenance of facilities and equipment. Assists with public education and outreach programs. Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of forestry principles and practices. Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, and other forestry tools. Ability to perform physical labor in a variety of outdoor conditions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. SPECIAL NOTES: This position requires the employee to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. This position requires the employee to be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. This position requires the employee to be able to work extended hours during wildfire season.
