Job AnnouncementPosition Title: Corrections Deputy Position Number: 1214 Department: Sheriff's Office Class: Non-Exempt Status: Full-time, Represented,  Annual Hours: 2,088 Salary Range: $23.10 – $28.92* ABOUT ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICEThe Adams County Sheriff's Office serves the community through professional law-enforcement and corrections services. Our Corrections Deputies play an essential role in operating a safe, secure, and respectful county jail for inmates, staff, visitors, and the public. We are seeking dependable, calm, and service-minded candidates who can make sound decisions in a fast-paced corrections environment.POSITION OVERVIEWThe Corrections Deputy performs activities involved in the receipt, booking, custody, transport, care, and recordkeeping of inmates incarcerated in the Adams County Jail. This position maintains facility safety and security; monitors inmate activity; processes court and release information; and works closely with law-enforcement, court, medical, and emergency-services personnel.This is a safety-sensitive position that requires professionalism, sound judgment, confidentiality, composure under stress, and the ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.KEY DUTIESReceive, search, book, fingerprint, photograph, and appropriately house incoming inmates based on established procedures and observed mental and physical conditions.Collect, record, safeguard, and release inmate property in accordance with jail procedures.Enter and update inmate records; review commitment, disposition, sentencing, and release documents; calculate sentence credit and release dates.Maintain inmate custody, safety, security, and orderly conduct within the facility.Monitor electronic surveillance equipment and observe inmate, trustee, visitor, and facility activity.Conduct searches of inmates and jail areas for contraband and inspect the facility for safety, security, cleanliness, and compliance with established procedures.Escort and/or transport inmates to court appearances, medical facilities, hospitals, and other correctional institutions.Supervise meal preparation and service, provide authorized medication support, and maintain inmate medical records.Assist field Deputies with inmate restraint and maintain control of disruptive inmates.Operate communications equipment and provide secondary assistance to dispatch as needed when primary corrections duties permit.Prepare and maintain accurate, confidential records and reports.Perform other related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.Valid Washington State driver's license.Current First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification as required.Ability to successfully complete the Corrections Officer Academy through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.Ability to successfully complete required certification, and access training, including training required by the Washington Criminal Justice Commission and WSP ACCESS.Physical condition sufficient to meet standards established by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission and to safely perform the essential functions of the position.Ability to pass required pre-employment screening, including background check and drivers abstract investigations and other testing required for a safety-sensitive position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAbility to remain calm, alert, and professional when responding to inmate issues, medical concerns, conflict, emergencies, and other stressful situations.Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully with inmates, coworkers, law-enforcement partners, service providers, and the public.Familiarity with correctional practices, inmate care, custody and control, or law-enforcement communications.Ability to learn and use Spillman software and related corrections technology.Ability to work effectively as part of a team while exercising sound independent judgment.Spanish-language skills are helpful.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Work is performed primarily by transporting to/from secure jail facilities. This position involves a high-stress setting and potential exposure to difficult, disruptive, or dangerous behavior, as well as possible contact with individuals who may have infectious diseases. Duties require regular standing, walking, sitting, communication, observation, computer and communications-equipment use, and the physical ability to safely control or assist with the restraint of a person resisting detention when necessary.Corrections Deputies must be available and reliable for rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime or emergency call-in assignments as operational needs require.SALARY & BENEFITS:Salary: This is a full-time represented position, which is currently classified Corrections under the 2025 Court House Salary Schedule of $23.10 - $28.92/hr.* Retirement security: Adams County participates in the Washington State Retirement Pension Fund.Generous leave: County employees enjoy paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 holidays per year. Generous benefits: Include employees’ medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.*Initial placement at time of hiring is dependent upon prior relevant experience and qualifications.
