Fayette County Water System Level 1 Drought Response
The Fayette County Water System declared a Level 1 Drought Response after the Georgia Environmental Protection Division issued a statewide drought declaration on April 27.
The water system asks customers to limit outdoor irrigation to two days per week under a voluntary odd-even schedule. Even-numbered addresses may water Wednesday and Saturday. Odd-numbered addresses may water Thursday and Sunday. All outdoor watering must occur between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m., consistent with year-round rules.
Georgia has experienced a rainfall deficit of 6 to 12 inches over the past six months, according to the EPD's April 2026 Drought Indicator Analysis. Much of South Georgia faces Exceptional Drought conditions, while large portions of north central and northeast Georgia are under Extreme Drought.
"Outdoor watering places additional strain on our water supply," Water System Director Vanessa Tigert said. "We encourage everyone to follow the voluntary odd-even irrigation schedule."
Excessive water use during peak demand periods strains the distribution system and reduces water pressure. Limiting outdoor watering preserves supply for drinking water, sanitation, and emergency services.
Tigert warned that conditions could escalate to Level 2, making restrictions mandatory. Residents can find water conservation tips on the EPA website and the Water System's website.
