Fayette County residents are urged to finalize tropical storm preparations immediately as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning, effective October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the area in the next 36 hours.

Wind speeds are forecast to reach 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and potential road impassability due to debris. Scattered power and communication outages are also possible. Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Fayette County, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, potentially higher in some areas. This rainfall could lead to moderate flooding, causing rivers and tributaries to swell and potentially overspill their banks. Floodwaters may enter structures and cause road closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; evacuations and rescues are possible. No tornadoes are expected at this time.
