LONDON – Surgeons at King's College Hospital in London conducted a brain tumor removal procedure utilizing real-time artificial intelligence assistance. This operation on patient Rhys Hibbert represents the first documented instance of live AI guidance in human brain surgery.
Doctors identified a tumor affecting Hibbert's vision. The surgical team employed the AI system, developed by a British medical technology company, to navigate the brain during the operation.
The AI system uses algorithms to process anatomical data, providing surgeons with continuous, updated information on brain structures and the tumor's location. This guidance aims to enhance precision during complex neurosurgical procedures.
Following the surgery, doctors reported a successful removal of the tumor. Hibbert's medical team continues to monitor his recovery. The hospital has not released further details on his current condition or the long-term impact of the procedure.
