Lake Tahoe, Reno: Boating Hazards Expected Saturday Due to High Winds
A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area, and Western Nevada Basin and Range, including Pyramid Lake, from 5 AM to 11 PM PDT Saturday, October 10th, due to strong winds creating hazardous boating conditions.
Boaters and lake-goers in the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area, and Western Nevada Basin and Range, including Pyramid Lake, are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions on Saturday, October 10th. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory, effective from 5 AM to 11 PM PDT on Saturday.
Southwest winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. These strong winds will create rough waves of 2 to 3 feet on both Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Such conditions pose significant hazards for small craft.
The NWS advises individuals to check lake conditions before heading out and to be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Residents are urged to consider postponing boating activities until conditions improve.
