West Chicago Earns Second Tree City USA Designation
West Chicago planted a tree at the city's wastewater treatment facility as part of efforts to earn a second consecutive Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation.
A proclamation was issued recognizing Arbor Day and the benefits of urban trees, including improved air quality, lower energy costs, higher property values, and wildlife habitat. The city planted the tree at the treatment facility to integrate environmental improvements across municipal operations.
The West Chicago Environmental Commission will distribute trees to residents at Blooming Fest, allowing residents to expand the city's urban forest beyond the single ceremonial planting.
