The purpose of the City Attorney is to represent the City in all legal proceedings and matters in which the City has a legal interest, and provide legal advice to the City Council, the Mayor and to other departments and officers of the City. The City Attorney cooperates and interacts with many outside agencies and entities, such as the County Prosecutor, the various law enforcement agencies, the Secretary of State, other units of local governments, the State Legislature and United States Congress. The City Attorney prepares and/or reviews all ordinances, contracts, bonds and other written instruments and prosecutes ordinance violations. Street Department You are here: Government / Departments / Street Department Recycling Notice Effective immediately, the City of Greenwood Recycle Center is unable to accept clear plastic and milk jugs until further notice, all other items will be accepted. The mission of the Street Department is to provide the City of Greenwood with a maintained and safe transportation system. Major functions of the department include: minor street resurfacing, brush pick-up, recycling, street sweeping, mowing public right-of-ways, and overall street maintenance. If you find problems with City streets in Greenwood, such as pot holes, down or damaged street signs, or drainage problems, please contact us. If you call the Main Office and no one is available to take your call, please leave us a message on our voice mail. Limb/Yard Waste Policy Yard waste, per policy and properly staged, will be collected by the City. FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH *Only Biodegradable Bags will be accepted* Items That The City Will Not Accept NO TREE STUMPS will be accepted NO Commercially Cut (or cut by contracted labor) limbs or trees NO Commercial or Manufactured Lumber or Landscaping timbers will be accepted NO Bags with Dirt or Garbage will be accepted LIMBS or BAGS cannot be placed in a DITCH, on a WATER METER, SEWER MANHOLE, GAS METER, or ON THE ROADWAY LEAVES, GRASS CLIPPINGS and HEDGE TRIMMINGS must be BAGGED in BIODEGRADABLE Bags Only Dimensions Limbs or brush must be NO LONGER THAN 8FT IN LENGTH and NO LARGER THAN 4 INCHES IN DIAMETER Yard waste should be stacked for easy loading on a truck. Larger waste may be collected with a backhoe The limbs may be bundled and tied with a string or cord. The bundled limbs/brush CANNOT be bigger than 24 in in diameter Once properly prepared, yard waste should be placed at the curb or no more than 10 feet from the road. Glass, Paper & Plastic Recycling The City of Greenwood Street Department is committed to recycling and we are working towards implementing efficient and convenient methods for citizens to recycle. We operate a Drop-Off Recycling Center adjacent to the Street Department Main Office that accepts glass, paper and plastic products. "The mission of the Code Enforcement Department is to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment. The department helps maintain and improve the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes and ordinances. Code Enforcement also works with residents, neighborhood associations, public services agencies and other City departments to facilitate voluntary compliance with City laws and codes and establish community priorities for enforcement programs. CODE INSPECTOR COMMENTS It is a violation of the Greenwood City Ordinance to have excess trash, junk or debris anywhere on your property inside the city limits. The following items qualify as trash, junk or debris and will be viewed as a violation: Items out of place such as furniture in yard, indoor furniture placed outdoors, appliances outdoors, piles of metal or trash. Tree limbs are allowed only for city limb pickup. Vehicles that are not licensed, operable with no missing parts. A violation could mean a citation – After issuing a warning, after 10 days a citation will be issued in the amount of $25.00 per day thereof. Overgrown Grass is the most common violation in Residential Areas – Ordinance 03-40 states that grass over 6 inches in height is in violation and is subject to a warning and followed up with a citation if not corrected within 10 days. All Property owners are responsible for the maintenance of grass to the edge of the street that immediately joins their property. This includes drainage ditches which will also be kept free and clean from all obstruction that blocks proper water drainage. Please help us keep Greenwood Beautiful. "The City of Greenwood Parks and Recreation hosts 2025 summer day camps at Bell Park for kids aged 6–13, running Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in June it features themed activities, including sand volleyball, pickleball, soccer, disc golf, and basketball. Each day, campers will complete their day at our new splash pad. The cost for individual campers is $90, and subsequent campers are $75."
