The History and Service of the Daytona Beach Fire Department

About this Event
Discover more than a century of service with the Daytona Beach Fire Department as we look back at its history, growth, and role in responding to local disasters.
The department traces its beginnings to 1898, when a devastating fire prompted local citizens to form Daytona Beach's first volunteer fire brigade. From there, the department modernized quickly, purchasing its first chemical engine in 1902 and hiring its first paid fire chief, Henry T. Titus, in 1909.
As Daytona Beach grew, so did the department. New fire stations, motorized equipment, improved communications, and specialized apparatus helped firefighters respond more quickly and effectively to emergencies throughout the city.
Today, the Daytona Beach Fire Department operates seven stations and continues its longstanding mission of protecting life and property with professionalism and service.
Hear how the department has evolved through the decades and learn more about the people, equipment, and major events that helped shape fire service in Daytona Beach.
