Jane Jacobs Walk & Roll – May 2, 2026Peterborough is launching its Master Plan Update this May, beginning with a Jane Jacobs Walk & Roll held on Saturday, May 2, a community event designed to spark conversation about how the town should grow and evolve. A Master Plan is the cornerstone of a town’s long‑term vision, guiding land use, infrastructure, and development in a way that supports sustainability and reflects community values.A Jane Jacobs Walk is a neighborhood walking tour inspired by writer and urbanist Jane Jacobs, whose influential 1961 book The Death and Life of Great American Cities challenged top‑down planning and championed people‑centered, community‑driven design. These walks encourage participants to observe, discuss, and connect with the places they live, using walking or rolling as a way to explore local history, culture, and everyday experience. Held annually across the country on the first Saturday in May, they embody Jacobs’ belief that communities thrive when residents share their observations and voices.Peterborough’s Walk & Roll will include two opportunities to participate: 10:00 AM Walking Tour through downtown (Grove Street, School Street, Depot Street, Main Street), followed by a guided visioning session in the park where participants can reflect and share ideas. 1:00 PM Bike/Running Tour along the Common Path, beginning at the Old Sharon Road Bridge at Noone Falls and continuing into downtown and beyond, with stopping points for discussion and a second guided visioning session.
