NW Sewer Project Phase 3 - Construction Start
About this Event
Public sanitary sewer is planned to be extended within the 64th Street Right-of-Way. This sanitary sewer project has been in planning and construction by the township for approximately 15 years. As the township has experienced growth in housing and commercial development, the sanitary sewer system has also had to grow to support the new homes and businesses.Construction of the NW Byron Trunk Sewer phase 3, which is the final phase, is planned to begin on March 25, 2026. The contractor, Montgomery Excavating, will begin mobilizing on 64th Street between Ivanrest Avenue and Byron Center Avenue. The street will be closed to thru traffic while local traffic will continue to be allowed access. Access to residences will be maintained throughout the length of the project; however, you may need to access your home from either Ivanrest Avenue or Byron Center Avenue as construction of the sanitary sewer proceeds. During construction, Montgomery will be communicating with these residents relative to specific temporary access impacts to their homes. Properties located east of Kent Trails will have access to Byron Center Avenue. We anticipate that the work in the 64th Street Right-of-Way will be completed by July 31, 2026, including the repaving of 64th Street. It was requested by the residents along 64th St. that we add shoulders to both sides of the street. The Kent County Road Commission approved the request so this will be an improvement after the road is completed.
Starting April 14, the township will have a representative, Don DeGroot, on-site a couple of times per week. which has tentatively been scheduled for Tuesdays, 8-10am and Thursdays, 4-6pm. You may email Don at [email protected] or call him at (616) 291-2276 for appointments during these time periods or another specific time to discuss any questions or concerns during the project.
We understand the inconvenience the installation of this sewer line will cause, and we appreciate your understanding and participation in completing this project to better serve the broader community.
