About this Event

March 6, 2026 The City of Cape Coral invites you to a media event to share significant positive news about our community’s water future. Thanks to the Utilities Extension Project (UEP) and the transition of existing wells off the Mid Hawthorn Aquifer, we are seeing aquifer recovery that we have not experienced in years. This rebound underscores how vital centralized water and long-term infrastructure planning are protecting our natural resources and supporting continued growth. The water level in the Mid-Hawthorn Aquifer is above the Maximum Developable Limit (MDL) of -83.01 feet, a major step forward that showcases the success of getting North 1 West UEP customers onto City utilities. As it relates to our reservoir pumping, this year marks a historic milestone: for the first time, the City is not purchasing water from the previous owner or scrambling to fill a water demand gap. Our vision of Water Independence for Cape Coral is becoming a reality, delivering real results for our residents and businesses. City leadership and staff will be available to discuss: The positive movement in the Mid Hawthorne Aquifer How UEP connections and well conversions are supporting recovery What Water Independence for Cape Coral (WICC 2.0) means for long-term sustainability Media Availability Details Date: Friday, March 6 Time: 1 to 2:30 p.m. (15-minute individual time slots) Location: Cape Coral City Hall Format: One-on-one interviews with the Mayor, City Manager, and key staff (by reserved time slot only) RSVP Required Media must RSVP to reserve a 15-minute time slot with the Mayor and City Manager.
