Through dynamic big-band arrangements, bandleader Peter Graves will share stories and reflections from his many years touring and recording with Jaco, offering personal insight into the music and the moments behind it. Performances of his unmistakable catalog will celebrate the artistry that transformed the role of the electric bass and continues to influence generations of musicians worldwide. The celebration also marks 50 years since a defining period in Jaco’s career, including the release of his self-titled debut album, Jaco Pastorius, and his appearances on landmark 1976 recordings such as Pat Metheny’s Bright Size Life, Weather Report’s Black Market, Joni Mitchell’s Hejira, and more. The evening will revisit music from this pivotal era alongside other favorites from throughout Jaco’s career.
