Don't miss the Steamboat Springs History Museum's History Happy Hour Series, the first Tuesday of each month, October through April, at 5:30 PM at Olympian Hall in Howelsen Hill Lodge (845 Howelsen Pkwy). Explore the rowdy and raucous side of Routt County and Colorado history, including the crimes, conflicts, controversies, and unusual events of the past. Each one-hour event features complimentary craft beer from Storm Peak Brewing and whiskey tasting from Mythology Distillery. Over-21 event. Free, but donations welcome.  History Happy Hour Series 2026-27 Line-up Oct. 6: “Persistence & Grit: The Lives of Colorado Women Homesteaders” with author and historian Gail Beaton. Beaton is a well-known Colorado women’s historian, author, and Chautauqua presenter.  Nov. 3 “Still Here: A Past to Present Insight to Native American People and Culture” with author, artist and activist Danielle SeeWalker. SeeWalker is Húŋkpapȟa Lakȟóta and a citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota. She is a fine artist, muralist, writer, activist, and boymom of two, based in Denver, Colorado.  Her artwork pays homage to her identity as a Lakȟóta wíŋyaŋ (woman) and her passion is to redirect the narrative to an accurate and insightful representation of contemporary Native America while still acknowledging historical events. More at https://www.seewalker.com/ Dec. 1 “How Race, Gender, Class and the Civil War Contributed to the Creation of the Centennial State” with author and historian Barbara Taylor.After a career covering schools for newspapers in Iowa, Wisconsin and Colorado, Taylor taught American History and civics for 25 years at Arvada's Pomona High School, and is an award-winning author. Jan. 5 “The Ballot and the Bottle: Political Machines in Frontier Colorado” with Sam Bock of History Colorado. Bock is the Director of Interpretation and Publications at History Colorado, and the Managing Editor of The Colorado Magazine. He did his graduate work at the University of Colorado Boulder, and is the author of several books and articles about his favorite state. Feb. 2  Through the Years: Winter Carnival and Winter Sports Club Alumni Memories with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club to kick off Winter Carnival. *ALL AGES EVENT! Mar. 2 “Rowdy Routt County Women” with author and historian Dagny McKinley. McKinley is an author and historian whose inspiration for her work comes from the incredible Routt County community.  April 6 How Clela Rorex of Steamboat Springs Taught the Country about Equality with Rocky Mountain Equality CEO Mardi MooreMardi Moore has dedicated more than 30 years to advancing the rights, visibility, safety, and well-being of the LGBTQ community at both the local and national levels. She currently serves as CEO of Rocky Mountain Equality.
