A powerhouse saxophonist, flutist, and composer with deep New England roots, Abate has spent decades on the bandstand worldwide, after a formative early run as lead alto in the Ray Charles Orchestra and later with the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra under Dick Johnson. Expect hard swinging bebop, lyrical ballads, and the kind of warm, story in the solo playing thats earned praise from legends and critics alike.
