Food Security Discussion with Community Partners

Food Security Discussion with Community Partners

About this Event

For immediate release October 27, 2025   Media contact Adrienne Saia Isaac | Communications Director [email protected]   Board of County Commissioners to Host Food Security Discussion with Community Partners Food assistance to be suspended for hundreds due to lack of federal support during shutdown   Summit County, Colo. – The Summit County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will host a discussion with community partners to develop food assistance solutions for the Summit County community. The discussion takes place Tuesday, October 28, at 11:35 a.m., during the weekly BOCC work session.   Earlier this month, the USDA announced that funding for the national Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) would be on hold starting November 1, due to the federal government shutdown and the corresponding pause of appropriations. This will leave over 600 individuals in Summit County without affordable access to nutritious food and lays an unsustainable bill of $226,000 per month at the feet of the County.      “The Summit County Board of County Commissioners is committed to doing what we can to help mitigate this situation,” the BOCC said in a statement. “Now is the time for us to come together and share ideas and harness as many resources as possible.”   The interminable pause of SNAP benefits affects over 41 million hardworking Americans who are simply trying to survive and purchase healthy, nutritious meals for themselves and their families. The absence of this benefit will have a domino effect on other food assistance programs, like food banks, as they will face the challenge of serving more people without a proportional increase in funding or volunteer assistance.   The public may join to observe Tuesday’s work session in person at the Old County Courthouse (3rd floor) at 208 E. Lincoln Avenue in Breckenridge or can register to join via Zoom. The full meeting agenda can be found here. Media interested in covering this topic should contact Adrienne Saia Isaac, communications director, for more information.   #     #     #
