A toy keyboard that only plays one note. A favorite stuffie leaking fluff. A bike that zigzags more than it zooms. Repair Cafe to the rescue! Now in its third year, Repair Cafe Guilford will debut a special family-focused pop-up event during the town’s Earth Day Celebration on the Guilford Green on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11 am - 2 pm (with a rain date of Sunday). It is a free community event and a fun way for families to experience sustainability in action as volunteer repair experts restore broken items that would otherwise be thrown away. “Since so many kids will be enjoying the Earth Day festivities on the Green, we wanted to gear this Repair Cafe especially toward families,” said Amy Kaneko, who organizes Repair Cafe Guilford as part of the Sustainable Guilford Task Force. “Our volunteer fixers are incredible and they are ready to bring broken toys back to action. Sewing specialists can give well-loved stuffed animals and clothing a little TLC, while bicycle experts can get bikes set for spring adventures.” Kaneko emphasized that the Repair Cafe is welcome to all. “This event is not just for kids’ items,” Kaneko said. “The repairers can also evaluate small household appliances and electronics (including tech help), as well as sharpen garden tools just in time for spring gardening.” Attendees may bring up to 2 items for repair. The Earth Day pop-up builds on the success of previous Repair Cafe Guilford events. The lively gatherings are typically held at the Community Center and consistently draw crowds with repairers fixing upwards of 100 items. "By fixing items instead of throwing them away, Repair Cafe works to reduce waste, cut CO2 emissions from manufacturing and recycling, and helps Guilford build a more sustainable future,” Sustainable Guilford Task Force Chair Terri Cain said. Guilford Parks & Recreation, Conservation Commission and Sustainable Guilford Task Force have collaborated to plan a hands-on Earth Day event for the whole family. In addition to Repair Cafe, Earth Day will have food trucks and fun kids’ activities.
