DEVIANT

The Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery and Salve Regina University's Department of Art and Art History are pleased to announce the opening of DEVIANT, a national juried exhibition that interrogates deviance as a concept, category, label, and worldview. Deviance subverts norms, undermines hegemony, and reimagines traditions. This exhibition celebrates the deviant's powers of disruption, innovation, authenticity, and individuality at the heart of image making practices in the 21st century. Fourteen artists tackle deviance as a subject, theme, or prompt in a range of mediums that includes painting, drawing, collage, and mixed media. This exhibition features the work of Kathy Black, Jenny Carpenter, Kara Dunne, Ronald Gonzalez, Tina Isla, Vesna Jovanovic, Sara Kramer, Scott Lewis, Beau McCall, Arezoo Moseni, Kristin O'Connor, Jeff Stauder, Lisa Wilde, and Stefanie Wills. A group of advanced Art History students and their professors in Salve Regina's Department of Art and Art History curated this exhibition. Professors Ernest Jolicoeur and Anthony F. Mangieri led the curatorial team. The class is also hosting a public Art History symposium titled Deviance on October 28 at 6:00 pm. DEVIANT runs from October 22 through November 22, 2026. The Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery is located in the Antone Academic Center on the campus of Salve Regina University. It is handicap accessible with parking along Lawrence and Leroy Avenues. Its exhibits are open Tuesdays through Thursdays 11:00 to 6:00 pm, Wednesdays and Fridays 11:00 to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays noon to 4:00 pm. The gallery is closed on Mondays.
