On Sunday, August 23, 2026, United Methodist churches across North Carolina are invited to observe Cross and Key Prison Ministries Sunday and receive a Special Offering in support of this vital ministry. Congregations that are unable to participate on August 23 are encouraged to receive the offering on another Sunday that best fits their calendar. Every day, more than 58,000 people are incarcerated in North Carolina's state prisons, federal facilities, and county jails. Behind every prison wall is a person created in the image of God, and behind every incarcerated person is a family in need of hope, encouragement, and the love of Christ. Jesus said, I was in prison and you visited me. (Matthew 25:36) Your gifts help Cross and Key Prison Ministries equip churches to answer Christ's call through prison visitation, family ministry, volunteer training, and resources for congregations. Through the comprehensive Prison Ministry Toolkit, on-site training, and ongoing support, Cross and Key Prison Ministries is helping churches of every size begin new prison ministries or strengthen existing ones.
