City to host disposal events

The City will host two, free disposal events in May.
Battery disposal event
The City will host a drive-through battery disposal event from 5 to 7 p.m. May 14 at the Georgetown Municipal Complex, 300-1 Industrial Ave. The following types of batteries will be accepted: AA, AAA, B, C, D, 9-volt, and button batteries. No registration is required. This will be a quick moving, drive through, drop off event. Containers will not be returned.The City will not accept batteries from small hand tools, cars, boats, golf carts or other large commercial batteries. If you need to dispose of these types of batteries, please register for the Household Hazardous Waste event on May 16, 2026.
Household Hazardous Waste event
Registration is required for a free household hazardous waste collection event from 9 a.m.-noon May 16 at the Georgetown Municipal Complex, 300-1 Industrial Ave. The event will be available for up to 500 Georgetown solid waste customers who are serviced through Texas Disposal Systems. Customers must register to participate. Registration closes at 5 p.m. May 15.Residents must remain in their vehicles during the collection. Staff will unload items from the back seat or trunk of the vehicle. All items dropped off must be in their marked, original containers. Commercial disposal and trailers are not allowed. A full list of accepted items is available on the City’s website.Acceptable items include:
Batteries (household), hearing aids, cell phone etc.
Automobile batteries
Pool and spa chemicals
Used oil/oil filters- up to five gallons per vehicle
Transmission fluid
Light bulbs including 4-foot florescent, curly, regular
Grease
Thermometers
Over-the-counter, home lawn and garden chemicals (no professional, concentrated chemicals that require a professional license to mix)
Aerosols
Household cleaners and disinfectants marked caution, warning, or poison
Art and hobby chemicals
Paint: up to 10 gallons per vehicle
Gasoline: up to five gallons per vehicle
Fire extinguishers
1 lb. propane tanks
Helium tanks
Smoke detectors
Items we cannot accept include:
Unmarked containers or unknown chemicals
Construction, commercial or landscape waste
Propane tanks larger than 1 lb.
Medical or pharmaceutical items
Oxygen tanks
Electronics (e-waste)
Tires
Explosives including ammunition and fireworks
Radioactive materials
Biological material
