Free trees will be available starting April 24 at 10 AM at  City Hall and at 2:30 PM at the Library—stop by early to pick one up  and join the community in celebrating Arbor Day by planting a tree. Halsey is proud to be recognized as a Tree City USA, a designation awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to communities that demonstrate a strong commitment to urban forestry and tree care. The city earned this designation in 2023, becoming one of Oregon’s smallest communities to receive the honor and the 70th city in the state to do so. To qualify as a Tree City USA, Halsey met four national standards: Maintaining a tree board or department Establishing a community tree ordinance Investing in urban forestry (at least $2 per capita) Celebrating Arbor Day each year This recognition highlights Halsey’s ongoing efforts to enhance its natural environment—through tree planting, community events like Arbor Day celebrations, and long-term planning for parks and green spaces. Local initiatives have included tree giveaways, planting projects in city parks, and adding street trees to improve both the appearance and environmental health of the community. Being a Tree City USA reflects Halsey’s dedication to cleaner air, improved quality of life, and a greener future for its residents.
