Arbor Day Tree Planting Event
About this Event
The City of Sandusky celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 24, 2026, with a tree planting event at the Sandusky Greenhouse in Huron Park.
The event included members of the Sandusky Tree Commission and students from Sandusky City Schools Regional Center for Arts & Academic Studies and Monroe Preparatory Academy. Tree Commission President, John Parker gave a presentation on the importance and beauty of trees. Sandusky Forestry staff worked with students to plant 2 Tulip Poplar trees during the event.
Sandusky has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for over 30 years, a designation that honors the City's commitment to effective urban forest management.
The Sandusky Tree Commission was established to consider matters related to the care, preservation, planting, and removal of trees in public areas. The commission also works to educate and inform residents about the proper care and selection of trees.
The City's Forestry Division plants between 50 and 100 trees each year in parks and in the public right-of-way. A full inventory of all public trees, including species and locations, can be viewed at www.cityofsandusky.com/forestry.
