2nd Annual Amistad Conference: Centering Black History, Expanding Inclusion Across Disciplines: Teaching New Jersey's Mandates
About this Event
This conference will convene New Jersey educators to explore innovative and inclusive approaches to teaching Black history in conversation with the histories of other historically marginalized groups. Participants will engage in discussions on curriculum development, pedagogical strategies, and resource sharing, while also examining ways to strengthen alignment and collaboration between higher education and K-12 classrooms.The conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a light breakfast, followed by the first panel, which will focus on the New Jersey Inclusive Curriculum Mandates and will be open to all attendees. The second and third concurrent panels will be followed by a luncheon with keynote speaker Sundjata Sekou. Sekou is an educator, writer, organizer and recipient of the 2024 NJEA Urban Educator Activist Award.
