The Tiny Pause That Keeps You From Overcommitting
You don’t need a dramatic boundary speech to protect your time. Start with one ordinary sentence that gives you room to make an honest decision instead of handing out automatic yeses.
Emily Dickinson’s Tiny Dash Makes Hope Feel Real
Dickinson’s famous bird of hope does not float serenely above the mess of life. Watch what her dashes do: they make the poem breathe, hesitate, and refuse to tidy up its weather.

The Future Loses Its First Syllable
Wisława Szymborska found a small trapdoor in the word “future”: the moment we say it, part of it has already become history. Her observation is playful, grammatical, and sneakily useful for anyone waiting for life to begin.

The Tariff Theater Meets the Grocery Aisle
Washington spent the day selling disruption as strategy, while families and small employers kept score in prices, paychecks, and paperwork. The tariff math matters more than the slogans, and the math points to consumers paying first.

Stop Calling It “Helping” If You Live There
Three readers ask about the domestic scoreboard, the ex who keeps texting, and the partner who wants credit for basic decency. The uncomfortable answer: love is not a group project where one person gets an A for opening the Google calendar.

Paving begins this week north of Worland on US 16/20/Wyoming 789 highway improvement project October 7, 2026 WORLAND, Wyo – The prime contractor for highway improvements on US Highway 16/20/789 is scheduled to begin paving activities Friday. Prime contractor is McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co., of Worland. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2027. "Weather permitting, McGarvin-Moberly will begin paving between milepost 168.82 (north of the Worland city limits) and milepost 173 of US Highway 16/20 starting Friday. We appreciate the patience of all those involved in agricultural harvesting and motorists," said Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Kelly Erickson of Worland. Erickson said concrete work has been rescheduled to begin in March 2027. "Paving will continue as long as fall weather holds," Erickson said. The scope of work on the $6.57 million project includes asphalt milling and an asphalt pavement overlay, chip sealing, ADA improvements, repairing and replacing concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter, and installing a roadway lighting system on 10.9 miles of US 16/20/Wyoming Highway 789. The project's starting point is milepost 165.76, the intersection of US 16 and US 20/Wyoming Highway 789 adjacent to the Washakie County Courthouse in Worland. Erickson said new intersection light poles will be installed next spring at the US 20 intersections of Washakie County Road 10 and County Road 12. Weekly public meetings will resume in the spring at McGarvin-Moberly's office south of Worland, 1001 US Highway 20 North. "We will hold weekly public meetings while concrete work is happening within the Worland city limits, beginning in the spring," said Erickson. The project was originally scheduled to begin July 9. "We really appreciate everyone's patience with the delayed start," Erickson said. Project questions may be directed to WYDOT Resident Engineer Kelly Erickson, P.E., at (307) 431-2281.
