Two Eureka Women Charged After Animal Control Call Reveals Children in Hazardous Home

Karen Asbury, 53, and Shawna Brink, 45, face felony child endangerment and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after Eureka police discovered a juvenile and an infant living in hazardous conditions at a residence on the 1700 block of H Street.

Animal Control responded May 12 at 1:30 p.m. to reports of loose dogs at the property. Officers found unsafe living conditions inside and around the home. City Code Enforcement deemed the residence uninhabitable.

Humboldt County Child Welfare Services took protective custody of both children. Animal Control transported the dogs to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter.

Police booked Asbury and Brink into jail on the charges listed above. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4300.
