Eureka Police Arrest Man, Seize Meth and Fentanyl
Eureka Police arrested Clayton Winfrey, 59, on May 4 after officers spotted him in a suspected drug transaction near Fourth and J Streets, leading to a vehicle and foot pursuit that ended with the seizure of more than 52 grams of narcotics.
Officers conducting enforcement on Fourth Street around 7:30 p.m. observed Winfrey, driving a silver Mercedes-Benz, exchange items with a pedestrian near a gas station in the 1100 block. When officers stopped the vehicle, they found drug paraphernalia inside. Winfrey fled westbound on Fourth Street toward Broadway.
A K9 officer located the Mercedes traveling southbound near Railroad Avenue and stopped it at Del Norte Street and Railroad Avenue. Winfrey ran into nearby brush, where officers saw him discard items. He surrendered before officers deployed the K9 unit.
Officers recovered approximately 38.25 grams of methamphetamine and 14.48 grams of fentanyl along with cash.
Winfrey faces felony charges including evading a peace officer, possession of narcotics for sale, and transportation of a controlled substance for sale. The arrest involved EPD's School Resource Officer, Mental Health officer, and K9 unit.
